Retracting “The Three Bears”

In response to the negative responses we've received about a reader-written article on our site. We have decided to remove the article from our site and our social media accounts.

In response to the negative responses we’ve received about a reader-written article on our site, we have decided to remove the article from our website and our social media accounts.

As an editorial staff, our goal for publishing the article was to serve as a cautionary tale against seeking out wild bears in nature. Feedback indicates that many feel this goal was not achieved. And, unfortunately, the comments we have been getting have evolved into a series of personal attacks on the reader who authored the story. Although we always welcome and encourage feedback about our magazine, we will not promote or publish attacks on our readers or readers who author content for our magazine.

As a result, we are removing the original article, as well as any posts that attack the article’s author.

In closing, we do not endorse or recommend interacting with or feeding wild bears in nature. For information on how to stay safe if you encounter a bear, as well as respect them in their natural habitat, please visit http://www.nps.gov/grte/planyourvisit/bearsafety.htm
